Languages

The Languages section lets you manage the languages available in your store. Adding multiple languages helps customers shop in their native language, improves accessibility, and increases conversion rates in international markets.

Manage Languages

You can enable, disable, and manage all storefront languages from this section.

Language List

Each language shows:

  • Language name
  • Default tag (if applicable)
  • Unpublish button to disable the language
  • Delete option (for removable languages)

Example Languages

  • English
  • Hindi
  • Russian (Default)
  • Japanese

Published languages are available to customers on the storefront.

Add a New Language

Expand your store’s reach by adding more languages.

Steps

  1. Click Add language
  2. Search and select a language from the list
  3. Click Save

Once added:

  • The language becomes available for storefront content
  • Translations can be applied to products, pages, emails, and notifications

Default Language

The default language is used when:

  • A visitor’s preferred language is not available
  • No browser language match is found

Controls

  • Change default language – Set which language is used as fallback
  • Applies to:

  • Storefront theme

  • System messages
  • Notification emails

Only one language can be set as default at a time.

Publishing & Unpublishing Languages

Publish

  • Makes the language visible to customers
  • Allows switching on the storefront (if enabled in theme)

Unpublish

  • Hides the language from customers
  • Keeps translations saved for future use

This is useful for staging translations before going live.

Best Practices

  • Always keep one default language enabled
  • Add languages based on your target markets
  • Translate core pages first (home, product, checkout)
  • Ensure notification emails are localized
  • Test storefront layout after enabling new languages

Summary

The Languages feature allows you to:

  • Offer a multilingual shopping experience
  • Increase global reach and accessibility
  • Control default and fallback languages
  • Manage published and unpublished translations

A well-managed language setup ensures a smooth and localized experience for every customer.
